For some odd reason Microsoft by default hides empty removable drives in Windows 7 on the Computer and Windows Explorer windows. This can cause confusion to users and IT staff. However, it’s an easy fix to get them to appear:
- Open Computer or Windows Explorer and press the Alt key.
- Select Tools > Folder Options, and click the View tab.
- Under Advanced settings, uncheck Hide empty drives in the Computer folder.
- Click OK.
