Show Empty Drives in Windows 7

For some odd reason Microsoft by default hides empty removable drives in Windows 7 on the Computer and Windows Explorer windows. This can cause confusion to users and IT staff. However, it’s an easy fix to get them to appear:

  1. Open Computer or Windows Explorer and press the Alt key.
  2. Select Tools > Folder Options, and click the View tab.
  3. Under Advanced settings, uncheck Hide empty drives in the Computer folder.
  4. Click OK.
