Adaptec Launches New, Extremely High Performance Network Storage Platform Optimized for Intensive Data Protection Applications

MILPITAS, CA, Jan 22, 2007 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) — Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, today announced that it has broken through the performance barrier for network storage yet again with its latest Snap Server 650 that is optimized for extremely demanding data protection applications such as video surveillance, email database archive, performance-sensitive disk-based backup and long distance disaster recovery. With the same legendary ease-of-use and twice the performance of any other Snap Server, the 650 which scales to 64.2TB, can compete with many enterprise-class storage systems at a fraction of the cost and maintenance requirements.

The new Snap Server 650 leads the recently refreshed Snap Server by Adaptec product line that includes the following six models:

-- The Snap Server 110 and 210 are fixed capacity desktop systems
designed for remote offices or workgroups and support up to 50 concurrent
    users, application servers or backup threads;
-- The Snap Server 410 and 510 are fixed capacity rack mount systems
optimized for departmental use and support up to 125 concurrent users,
    application servers or backup threads;
-- The Snap Server 520 and 650 are scalable, high-performance rack mount
systems for the central office and small/medium-sized enterprises and
support up to 200 concurrent users, application servers or backup threads.

Based on the same award-winning GuardianOS(TM) operating system as the rest of the Snap Server product line, the Snap Server 650 also offers a full suite of integrated data protection solutions including antivirus, backup and recovery, and data replication. Built on the AMD Opteron architecture, the Snap Server 650 provides a base capacity of 1.2TB with Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drives and available memory that is scalable from 2GB to 4GB for extremely fast throughput for performance-intensive application and data protection environments.

Wilshire Protection is a private security agency that specializes in providing patrol services for events, companies and buildings throughout Southern California. They are using the Snap Server 650 as the primary storage server for all business data including service contracts and their daily use database.

“Private security is serious business and it is critical that our data remains secure and available at all times. While our business is 24×7, our IT personnel aren’t. That’s why we depend on the reliability and ease-of-use of our Snap Server, as it enables us to keep our data protected and available even in the event of a power supply or disk failure,” said Robert Inglis, director of security at Wilshire Protection. “The data redundancy features in the Snap Server 650 give us the necessary disaster protection that we need for our remote offices without requiring additional hardware or software installation. With the Snap Server 650, we get the disk access and data transfer speeds of a much larger and more expensive solution at a price point that fits within our budget.”

“A one-size-fits-all approach is simply unacceptable for small and mid-size enterprises that have the same complex requirements for data protection as the largest companies, yet with much fewer financial and IT resources,” said Steve Terlizzi, general manager and vice president, Storage Solutions Group, Adaptec, Inc. “Businesses shouldn’t have to compromise on performance or data protection functionality in order to get what they need. That’s why we remain committed to delivering the industry’s best mid-range storage solutions through the Snap Server brand — solutions that continue to raise the bar for performance, easy-to-use data protection and affordability. The Snap Server 650 is the latest example of our continued commitment to this market.”

Additional Features and Benefits of Snap Server 650:

-- Superior Performance - The Snap Server 650 is built with dual-core 64-
bit AMD Opteron processors and the GuardianOS operating system for high-
speed performance that is up to twice as fast as competing products in a
similar price point. With data throughput speeds of up to 1045 Mb/s, the
Snap Server 650 is an ideal choice for intensive data protection
    applications.

-- Comprehensive Data Backup - The Snap Server 650 provides a range of
powerful data protection software that allows companies to easily deploy
backup and disaster recovery strategies. Integrated software includes
snapshot technology for the creation of virtual point-in-time copies for
file systems and directories to recover lost or corrupted data. Also
included with the GuardianOS is BakBone NetVault WorkGroup Edition backup
software, which includes a 500GB virtual tape library (VTL) license and
allows Snap Servers to support both disk-to-disk (D2D) or disk-to-disk-to-
tape (D2D2T) backup strategies for long-term data archival.

-- Instantaneous File Access in Case of Disaster - An optional software
application for the Snap Server 650 is Snap Enterprise Data Replicator
(Snap EDR) which facilitates the replication of files from any distributed
Snap Server or UNIX, Linux, or Windows application server to a central or
recovery location. In the event of a system failure or natural disaster,
these files can be accessed and easily recovered by an administrator or end
    user.

-- Flexible, Scalable Storage Architecture - The Snap Server 650 supports
the attachment of multiple SANbloc S50 JBOD expansion units with hot-
swappable SAS and Serial ATA (SATA) drives enabling it to serve as a dual-
purpose server storing both production data (with SAS drives) and archival
data (with SATA drives) with the performance to handle both. Businesses can
easily scale storage capacity on demand with Instant Capacity Expansion
(I.C.E.), providing a storage solution that grows with the business.

-- Data Protection & Security - Protection from viruses and malicious
attacks is provided through integration of CA eTrust Antivirus. Security is
also provided during data replication and transfer over the network through
    powerful encryption and authentication functionality.

-- Continuous Desktop Backup - Utilizing another optional software
application that is available with Snap Servers called StorAssure,
companies can ensure that employee data stored on laptops or desktops in
central or remote offices is always protected by easily implementing
automated backup to a local or centralized Snap Server.

Pricing and Availability

The Snap Server 650 is currently available through distribution partners. Pricing for the Snap Server 650 (1.2TB SAS) starts at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $15,695 U.S. Expansion for the Snap Server 650 is available through the SANbloc S50 JBOD, which starts at $4,431 MSRP. Adaptec’s suite of data protection software is fully integrated with all Snap Servers — some applications are standard offerings and some are available as optional features for additional purchase.
