Android Malware still on the rise

When an operating system gains a large share of the market, it becomes popular not only with users but also with hackers, who love having such a broad target area. In keeping with that, according to a report in Infosecurity Magazine, Android malware saw an increase of almost 400 percent in 2014. The good news for companies – but not for owners/users of BYOD devices – is that most of the exploits are aimed at tricking users into paying for SMS premium services rather than at stealing corporate data.

Meanwhile, the struggle continues between company IT departments and users over just how much control the company should have over employee-owned computing equipment. The report predicts that companies will give up on trying to manage BYOD devices completely and focus on securing only the parts of the devices where corporate data is stored or accessed.
