A Quick Tip To Change KCC Interval

KCC (Knowledge Consistency Checker) component builds/checks the Replication Topology every 15 minutes. This Active Directory component runs on every domain controller to check changes in the sites and then builds the Replication Topology. In a large environment, the KCC may take some time to evaluate the Replication Topology. Thus, it may decrease performance on the domain controllers. You can increase the KCC Interval by specifying the below mentioned registry entry and setting a value as per your requirement.

  • KEY Name: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters
  • Entry Name: Repl topology update period (secs)
  • Type: REG_DWORD
  • Value: 0x384 (this is the default value)

You can change the default value to ox890 or higher so that KCC invokes at the defined interval to re-evalaute the Replication Topology.
