A Quick Tip To Disable “Initial Configuration Tasks List”

Windows Server 2008 offers new ways to configure initial tasks through Initial Configuration Tasks Extension. This snap-in extension is launched when you reboot the computer running Windows Server 2008 except Server Core. There is a registry key to disable the automatic launch of Initial Configuration Tasks Extension at logon.

  • KEY: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ServerManager\Oobe
  • Value Name: DoNotOpenInitialConfigurationTasksAtLogon
  • Value Data: 1=enabled, 0=disabled

You can use the above entry only on Windows Server 2008 computer running Full Installation.
