Backup Latency Threshold In Windows Server 2003 With SP1

This article explains how you can use a registry entry show that it displays a warning message if a Naming Partition is not backed up for many days. This functionality is new to Windows Server 2003 forest created with SP1. The Windows Server 2003 will report if any Naming Partition is not backed up within the specified days.

The registry entry to configure this feature is located at the following location:

  •  Key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters
  • Type: REG_DWORD
  • Entry: Backup Latency Threshold (days)

Enabling and specifying some values in the above registry will enable you to monitor your Active Directrory environment for backups. An event ID will be logged if the Naming Partition is not backed up within the specified days configured in above registry entry. Event ID is 2089.
