Best of CES 2020: Products, innovations, and services

The CES consumer electronics show this year marked the beginning of the new decade with the latest tech ideas, products, and innovations. CES is an annual tech event that brings various tech companies, tech enthusiasts, and media under one roof. CES 2020 took place in the heart of Las Vegas and showcased some of the greatest — and weirdest — tech of all time.

Unlike most of the tech events that happen globally, CES had various announcements ranging from major tech corporations to innovative startups. CES 2020 was a four-day event this year and had over 100 announcements each day. So, we did all the hard work and have picked the best of CES 2020.

There were plenty of gadgets, both affordable and super costly. Few can be brought right now and few might not even be available until the next 10 years. However, here are all the best announcements and innovations showcased at this year’s annual consumer electronics show.

Samsung Ballie

Home automation and robotics have been the trend for years now. And Samsung this year at CES leveraged these trending techs and unveiled Ballie. Samsung Ballie is the first-ever and maybe even first of its kind combination of robotics with a smart home device.

Samsung Ballie gets its name from its shape and form-factor. It is a ball-shaped gadget, equipped with AI, various sensors, and cameras. It can roll around the house and control various smart home features relating to security. It can also be a home and fitness assistant and can be used as a remote control for other smart devices at home. The device can also send updates and notifications about the home to its owner when away.

The built-in camera on the Ballie also has facial recognition for security purposes and also to identify its owner. Best of all, perhaps, it can follow its owner around like a puppy.

Hydraloop water recycler

With natural resources conservation and environment to take center stage in the coming years, there were a couple of products in this domain showcased at CES 2020. Hydraloop, a water-saving company from The Netherlands, came up with its all-new water recycler at the event.

CES 2020

Hydraloop water recycler is a large home appliance that can recycle almost 85 percent of the water from showers, washing machines, and baths. The device comes with a series of six maintenance-free filtration techniques that can recycle the water for reuse in toilets, pools, and other home essentials such as planting. And yes, the water from toilets and kitchen sinks are excluded from the filtration, so nothing to fret about.

Impossible pork

Heard about faux meat craze? If you are a vegan, we are pretty sure you have. For the uninitiated, Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat are two of the largest food and technology companies that are well-known for their plant-based meat. Both companies share a common interest in tackling climate change and believe that livestock and cattle consumption needs to be reduced to tackle environmental consequences we are facing.

Impossible Foods showcased its new Impossible Pork at CES 2020. Impossible Pork is a man-made plant-based pork replacement that cooks, feels, and even tastes like actual pork. The company announced that Impossible Pork is designed for kosher and Halal certification, which means even those whose religion forbids eating pork can consume the product.

Samsung’s Project Neon

Samsung finally unveiled its long ongoing project Neon at CES 2020. The company described its technology as “a computationally created virtual being that looks and behaves like a real human, with the ability to show emotions and intelligence.”

In simple terms, Neon makes video chatbots look and feel very human and even act like real humans. The company also made it very clear that Neon’s humanoid chatbots are not designed to be as intuitive or intelligent as voice-based AI assistants like Bixby or Alexa. Instead, they are meant to be friendly companions made to make us more human.

Google Assistant: Updates

Google has been a very active player and participant in almost all the major tech events and CES 2020 was no exception. The company announced a bunch of new features in Google Assistant that are expected to roll out to users later this year.

The company has been launching various features to make Google Assistant even more helpful to users for everyday lives, travel and driving, and in smartphones. Google announced various features such as Leave Notes and Read Out Loud. The company also promised that all the conversation data with Google Assistant stays private.

Transportation

Thanks to the increasing need and demand, we are making remarkable progress in the transportation segment. At CES 2020, we witnessed various companies come up with their latest innovations, prototypes, and product launches in the transportation domain.

Segway S-Pod

Segway is one of the world’s leaders in personal electric transportation. The company already has various electric transportation products such as electric bikes, scooters, and more. At CES 2020, the company launched the S-Pod, which is a two-wheeled self-balancing stroller. S-Pod can hit a maximum speed of 24 miles per hour and can be controlled using a joystick with ease. It is also equipped with various smart safety features such as automatic braking on turns and exterior lights.

Manta5 Hydrofoiler XE-1

We have witnessed the first-ever amphibious cycle at this year’s CES. Manta5, a New Zealand-based company, showcased its Hydrofoiler XE-1, which is a water bicycle. The company said it uses the same technology used in America Cup sailboats and is built using an aircraft-grade TIG aluminum frame. The device draws its power from a hybrid drivetrain providing about 60 minutes of drive on a single charge, which takes about five hours. The device is priced at $7,490 and is by no means close to being affordable. However, what’s interesting is its innovation, which certainly caught attention.

Fancy Flying Ubers

CES 2020 also served as the platform where we witnessed something very revolutionary. Uber, in collaboration with Hyundai, revealed a flying car concept. The companies believe that soon we all can experience flying Ubers with ease. The concept vehicle is known as A-A1, offering four seats. The device is electric-powered and can land and take flight vertically. The company said it can achieve a top speed of 180 miles per hour while flying at an altitude of 2,200 feet. The vehicle can also make trips as long as 60 miles.

Hyundai announced that the prototypes won’t be operational until 2023 and once operational, Uber will take care of the passenger interface and air-traffic lanes.

As mentioned earlier, there were over 100 different announcements made at CES 2020 every single day. What’s interesting was to see various companies showcasing their products in areas such as health care and wellness, energy consumption, and resource recycling, and more. We will be coming up with another exclusive story for the best laptops and smartphones announced at the event. Until then, stay tuned.
