Breakthrough in SSD Technology

November 2011, OCZ Technology announced the launch of a pair of new SSDs having the highest capacity in a 2.5-inch form factor. The new drives are in the Octane family and include the Octane 6Gbps and the Octane-S2 using a 3Gbps interface. OCZ claims it is the first SSD maker to hit 1TB in a 2.5-inch form factor drive. Both of the SSDs use the Indilinx Everest platform to deliver up to 45,000 IOPS.

According to their CEO, the new pair will solve the problem of having a narrow band of applications getting performance benefits from specific SSDs. The Octane series performance benefits span across various workloads. The SSDs use proprietary page mapping algorithms for steady mixed-workload performance and the ability to mirror real world conditions across different applications.
