New Citrix Workspace App launching later this year

Citrix recently announced the release of its new Citrix Workspace App, which is meant to be the focal point of the company’s improvements to the Citrix Workspace end-user experience. Citrix expects the app to become generally available in the current quarter. Here’s what you need to know about it.

What is the Citrix Workspace App?

The Citrix Workspace App is a single-entry point that you can use to access all of your workspace services, including virtual apps, desktops, SaaS apps, files, and mobile apps. The idea is simply to give you a single dashboard where you can access all of those items, rather than having to switch back and forth constantly, giving users and organizations a big productivity boost. In addition, Citrix is offering a single sign-on for everything while also working to keep all of your data secure behind the scenes.

How does this affect the Citrix Workspace platform?

For IT pros who are managing the backend of Citrix Workspace, the integration of those resources in the app shouldn’t lead to a major headache. All of the digital workspace resources available in the app are powered by the Citrix Workspace Platform. So it is able to enumerate and deliver all of those items directly to the app, providing a simple administration experience through the Citrix Cloud console.

In addition, Citrix Workspace App incorporates all of the capabilities of Citrix Receiver, along with those from other Citrix client technology like NetScaler plug-ins, XenMobile Secure Hub, ShareFile driver mapper, desktop app, and sync. Citrix also plans on continuing to update the app with new security features. And the app will replace Citrix Receiving later this year. The company plans on offering additional resources and cloud services to help with the transition.

How can I take advantage of the app and new end-user experience?

Citrix Workspace App will launch sometime this quarter. At that time, you can download it from or any app store. You’ll also need to be able to access the Citrix Workspace Platform in order to unlock all of the available features and capabilities. This is included in all Citrix Cloud services, with Citrix Workspace Premium offering the most robust experience.
