Changing the default target in Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Starting in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, the systemd is the default init system. The systemctl utility is the tool of choice when managing systemd components like the targets. If you have installed your Red Hat Enterprise Linux using the graphical user interface (GUI), you can use systemctl to change to the regular console. To see your current default, run systemctl get-default. To change back to the command-line interface, execute systemctl set-default multi-user.target, as depicted in the image below.

Note: It won’t change a thing in the current state. You will see the change in your next restart of the server.
