By default a computer running Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 notifies event viewer if a disk space falls below 10% of the total disk space for every drive letter. You can modify this behaviour by using the following registry entry:
- KEY Name: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
- Registry Entry: DiskSpaceThreshold
- Data Type: REG_DWORD
- Value: 0-99 Percent
The above registry entry does not exist by default. You need to create it. If the percentage of the free space falls below the value of this entry, then the Server service creates the following event in the System Log in Event Viewer:
"The disk is at or near capacity. You might need to delete some files. Event ID would be 2013.
