Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Enterprise Edition: Everything you need to know

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was a huge success even before it was officially released. The device received 650,000 preorders, the highest among all the previously launched Note series of smartphones. With the launch of Note 8 late last year, Samsung not only managed to overcome the disastrous Note 7’s incidents but also managed to get back its user base and positive public perception. Thanks to the success of the Note 8, the South Korean tech giant launched the Galaxy Note 8 Enterprise Edition as its latest offering to cater to the business market. The Galaxy Note 8 Enterprise Edition is a business-focused device that is touted to provide a powerful combination of device management with security.

The company says that the Galaxy Note 8 Enterprise Edition provides PC-class product lifecycle support services to its users and is especially meant for the enterprise and small and medium-sized businesses. The device is priced at just under $1,000.

Enterprise mobility management

The device offers Enterprise Firmware over-the-air (E-FOTA), which provides the complete control of the firmware upgrades for the Galaxy Note 8 Enterprise Edition. The firmware upgrades can be set in three ways:

Selective firmware update

This lets the business selectively update the firmware of all the devices in the enterprise. With selective firmware update, the enterprise can provide updates to selected users for testing. The company can also choose to block all the updates or even filter the updates to have uniformity across its employees.

No user interaction (forced updates)

In this option, company administrators who manage and monitor all the devices can simultaneously upgrade the software systems of the device without interaction from the end users. It is quite common that the devices running on different security versions have compatibility issues and the forced updates in the Note 8’ E-FOTA aids an organization in maintaining uniformity.

Scheduled updates

Using this option, a company can plan to upgrade its devices on a schedule to accommodate business continuity. Often, these updates are performed outside of business hours to make sure that the operations or support isn’t hindered.

Knox configuration

Knox is a robust cloud-based tool that provides an easy means of provisioning and setting up the devices as per the enterprise needs. Using Knox, businesses can manage and monitor all the devices and their activities through a centralized interface, making it easy to maintain and manage.

Through Knox, all the participating Note 8s can be configured as per the company’s needs and this can be done even without unboxing the device. Employees will receive business-critical applications and services by default, without going through a process of installations. Moreover, Knox provides a means of providing enterprise-specific tools and applications that can be deployed on the devices through the central system.

Multiple profiles can be created within an enterprise and the devices can be divided among each such profile. This way instead of managing each individual device, admins can manage and provide access or permissions based upon the profiles at a granular level. This provides better control and security over the devices.

Stay unlocked

The Galaxy Note 8 is a part of the Unlocked by Samsung initiative, which gives users the freedom and flexibility to choose the mobile carrier they like without a contract. An unlocked smartphone provides better freedom and flexibility to customers, which is essential for business users.

With the Galaxy Note 8 Enterprise Edition, users can easily customize and choose the services and cellular plans they want. And the device is free from bloatware and comes without any carrier-specific applications or services.

Security

The Galaxy Note 8 Enterprise Edition is protected by Samsung Knox security, and Samsung promises to provide monthly security updates for up to three years after the launch. Knox workspace also offers a robust and secure means of doing enterprise-related work and can isolate and encrypt sensitive data.

The device also offers paid premium Knox services, which combines a cloud-based platform with an on-device secure container to provide a better device management solution. Samsung has partnered with a cloud-based EMM ecosystem to optimize and secure its mobile portfolio. For more information about Knox security, click here.

Galaxy Note 8 Enterprise Edition boasts better support

The Galaxy Note 8 Enterprise Edition will also offer extended support. Samsung supports more than 1,600 APIs and over 600 policies to provide better flexibility and support to its enterprise users. Enterprise users will also get priority support and assistance from Samsung. Users can opt for an extended warranty by choosing the Samsung Protection Plus plan, which provides technical support and services beyond the warranty period.

Looking at the device’s features and specifications, the Note 8 sports a 6.3-inch quad-HD infinity display with a resolution of 2,960 x 1,440 pixels. Under the hood, the device is powered by an octa-core 64-bit processor paired with 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM.

The device comes with multiple storage options: Users can choose from 64/128/256GB variants. The handset runs Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box and comes with a built-in S-Pen stylus, which adds to the usability and productivity of the device. The Note 8 comes with a dual 12-megapixel camera setup at the rear and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The device stays juiced up with a 3300mAh battery, which comes with the fast charging and wireless charging capabilities.

Considering the powerful innards and specifications, the Galaxy Note 8 Enterprise Edition is a very powerful and secure device for the enterprise market. But even with its features and specifications, can the device fare well in the ever-evolving enterprise world? Let us know your views in the comments section.
