Great free tool: StarWind Software V2V Image Converter

I recently had a need to convert an existing VMware VMDK file to VHD format so that I could mount it on my Hyper-V lab server.  I would have used Microsoft Virtual Machine Manager to do so, but have been working on my lab and do not currently have an Active Directory domain established so VMM didn’t want to install and I wasn’t interested in spending a lot of time messing with it.

So, I turned to a free tool: StarWind Software’s V2V Image Converter.  With this tool, you can convert images to and from various ESX (VMDK) and Virtual PC/Hyper-V (VHD) formats.  You can see the format selections shown in the figure below.

I selected an existing image to convert and, as you can see in the figure below, I am converting this image from VMDK to VHD.

For a free tool, Image Converter is a most welcome addition to my virtual utility arsenal!
