Hacker group declares cyberwar on U.S. government and business

A group of computer “hactivists” is threatening governmental agencies and big businesses in the United States with “unconventional, asymmetrical acts of warfare.” Members are calling it “ethical lawbreaking” and are targeting corporations as well as government officials. The group is under investigation by the FBI and has been accused of launching DDoS attacks using botnets to flood targeted web sites, including those belonging to Mastercard and Visa. The group is apparently politically motivated and claims credit for exacerbating the uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya by shutting down government web sites in those countries. They are supporters of Wikileaks and last month, they attacked a government contractor/cybersecurity company, and stole internal email messages that they later posted on the Internet.
