How to duplicate a task sequence

Here are the steps you can perform to make a duplicate copy of a task sequence in MDT 2010. You might do this for example if you have a customized task sequence that you want to use as a template for creating additional task sequence you can then customize.

  1. Create a new task sequence.
  2. Open Windows Explorer and locate the file system folder associated with your original task sequence, for example the folder C:\DeploymentShare\Control\OLDID, where OLDID is the Task Sequence ID of your original task sequence.
  3. Copy all the files contained in this folder such as TS.XML and Unattend.xml to the similar folder associated with your new task sequence, for example C:\DeploymentShare\Control\NEWID.
  4. Open the Deployment Workbench and customize your new task sequence as desired.
