First, we heard some security experts opine that firewalls are no longer necessary. Recently, yet another controversial idea along the same lines has reared its head, in the form of research reports that suggest that antivirus software is doing such a lousy job of detecting and preventing malware infestations that it’s a waste of money for large organizations to invest in it.
Security company Imperva came to this conclusion in a study that it recently did for the University of Tel Aviv, and this goes hand-in-hand with the increasing incidence of so-called Zero Day threats – those that are so new that no fix is available.
