Verizon released its latest Data Breach Invesigation report, in which they analyzed over 100,000 security incidents and 2260 confirmed breaches. The conclusion: attackers are quick and victims are slow. In over 80% of the cases, the targeted organizations didn’t know they had been breached for weeks.
The good news: nearly 2/3 of the breaches were due to weak, default or stolen passwords. That’s good news because it’s something that can be fixed by using multi-factor authentication or even better password construction and protection policies.
