Ransomware – malicious software that takes your data hostage by encrypting it and demands something, usually money, to decrypt it – has grown increasingly popular lately. A new variety, called Locker, is especially stealthy because it acts as a “sleeper,” lying in wait for months after a computer is infected until it’s activated. At that time, it targets certain types of files, including .doc/.docx, .ppt, .jpg and other popular data types.
