Making mobile secure for the enterprise

Last week I wrote an article for TechRepublic about Alternatives to the BYOD free-for-all that you might find interesting. It talks about ways to give employees some or all of the benefits they get from BYOD, while maintaining enough control over devices connecting to your network to keep it secure.

Some of the suggestions, such as a “contract” with employees that gives you the right to completely wipe their devices at any time, may be controversial. Others, such as deployment of specialized mobile device management systems, may be expensive. However, a mobile-induced security breach could cost far more.

I’m currently working on an article for Windowsecurity.com that will focus more closely on the security implications of BYOD and some of the solutions that are being put forth by device vendors and by third party mobile software vendors. Keep an eye out for it on this site.
