Managing Windows Servers with Windows 7

Most systems administrators will agree that when available, managing a Windows Server is much easier done from the convenience of a one’s own desktop rather than having to log into multiple servers through a remote desktop connection. This is especially the case when managing a wide array of servers offering several different services.

By default, Windows 7 does not include the tools necessary to do perform these administrative tasks from your desktop. This is done through the Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) client, which is now available for Windows 7 RC. RSAT allows for centralized administration of Windows Server infrastructures. It includes Active Directory management tools as well as tools for managing DHCP, DNS, Hyper-V, Terminal Services, etc. You can download Windows 7 RSAT here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=f6c62797-791c-48e3-b754-c7c0a09f32f3&displaylang=en.
