There are a couple of places to view memory metrics on a VM level from the vCenter client. Unfortunately, there seems to be some confusion around the terminology and definitions used to describe the memory metrics. Fortunately, Duncan Epping has put together a nice article detailing these memory metrics and delving a little deeper into their meaning. For example, the vCenter client shows numbers for:
- Memory
- Memory Overhead
- Consumed Host Memory
- Active guest memory
- Guest memory:
-
- Private
- Shared
- Swapped
- Compressed
- Ballooned
- Unaccessed
- Active
