Microsoft Windows Security

Well once again another critical exploit has surfaced for Microsoft Windows. Is it just me, or does it seem a week can’t go by without an exploit being released for Windows, or an associated program such as the Office suite? Don’t get me wrong here, I am not simply bashing Microsoft for the sake of it. They have made great strides in terms of security. The problem is in their insistence on legacy code. When you have so much bloody code ported from one version to another, you are just adding to your headaches, and security of course. There is no simplistic answer here as Microsoft Windows has always made itself backwards compatible. Perhaps it is time though to rethink that policy. Much like with the upcoming Microsoft Windows Vista and their redesign of the TCP/IP stack, perhaps it is time to overhaul their code trees in other product lines. Thoughts anyone?
