2014 was a good year for cyber attackers. For those of us who are trying to stay two steps ahead of them, not so much. Secunia’s annual report showed 15,435 vulnerabilities detected over the year, 18 percent more than in 2013 and representing a whopping 55 percent increase over the previous five year period.
There is good news: 83 percent of the vulnerabilities already had a patch ready when they were disclosed. The (other) bad news is that if it doesn’t have a patch on the day of disclosure, it’s unlikely to have one thirty days later.
