OpenStack and Containers

OpenStack Liberty is the newest version of the OpenStack framework. While there are several new features included in this release, what stuck out to me is the integration with containers. The concepts of OpenStack and Containers are similar to me. Not the technology itself, but that everyone is talking about them and not many people are actually using them in production. This isn’t to knock either technology, just newer tech that haven’t been fully integrated into the datacenter (or cloud, as it were).

Liberty will have the full Magnum Container Project release. Magnum will support Kubernetes, Mesos, and Docker Swarm. The Magnum project allows OpenStack administrators to more easily integrate containers with the Nova, Neutron, and Ironic projects that already exist in OpenStack. I would imagine this project to only get better in future releases of OpenStack as containers continue to build popularity, especially in a cloud environment.
