Tuning display protocols like VMware’s PC-over-IP is a big deal in VDI. One of the tuning areas for PCoIP that may be missed is tuning the network. There are some basic networking guidelines that should be followed in order to avoid network bottlenecks that could cause experience degradation. Andre Leibovici wrote a nice article detailing some of the network tuning best practices for PCoIP. Some of the tuning parameters deal with things like:
- Minimize the buffers in network routers and switches
- Set congestion avoidance to WRED
- Ensure round trip latency is within limits
- Set a lower MTU to avoid datagram fragmentation
The network tuning recommendations along with display parameter tuning can help ensure maximum user density while delivering a positive user experience.
