“Perfect Storm” highlights need for IT disaster preparedness

This week’s “Perfect Storm” scenario in which Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on businesses and individuals on the east coast brings home the vital importance of having an IT disaster preparedness and recovery plan in place before such an incident occurs.

Sandy shut down the New York Stock Exchange for two days, prompting many questions about whether effective contingency plans were in place to keep the markets running.

But your company doesn’t have to be the size of the NYSE or have as many people dependent on it to need a good plan for what to do if a natural disaster strikes. FEMA hosts a web site that provides guidance for creating an IT disaster recovery plan as part of your overall business continuity strategy.
