Publishing Exchange 2003 Outlook Web Access (OWA) with ISA Server 2000 –
Table of Contents
By Thomas W Shinder M.D.
I recently finished a five part series on how to publish the Exchange 2003 Outlook Web Access Web site using ISA Server 2000. The inspiration behind this series was the realization that ISA Server 2000 provides an absolutely unique ability to protect my OWA 2003 Web sites in a way that no other firewall in its class can do. No other firewall can provide:
-
URLScan 2.5 protection at the firewall that’s specifically designed to detect and destroy inbound requests aimed at damaging the OWA Web site
-
SSL to SSL bridging allows the ISA Server 2000 firewall to inspect packets even when those packets are secured and encrypted by SSL from OWA client to the ISA Server firewall and from the ISA Server firewall and OWA Web site on the internal network. SSL to SSL bridging isn’t available in any other firewall in ISA Server’s class
-
Delegation of basic authentication allows the ISA Server 2000 firewall to pre-authenticate the user before any packets from the external user ever arrive at the OWA Web server on the internal network. No unidentified intruders ever get near the OWA Web site!
I’ve included a table of contents for the five part series on Publishing the Outlook Web Access 2003 Web site below:
I hope you find this series helpful in setting up, configuring and troubleshooting your secure OWA 2003 publishing scenarios. If you have any questions on any of these articles, or problems with publishing your OWA 2003 Web sites, head on over to http://forums.isaserver.org/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=009703 and ask a question. I’ll be informed of your post and answer you ASAP. Thanks! –Tom.
