Reasons to Migrate from ISA Server 2006 to TMG 2010

Interesting blog post… I as reading Reasons to Migrate from ISA Server 2006 to Forefront TMG 2010 at the Forefront TMG Team blog and one of the reasons highlighted is the new and improved email, anti-malware and anti-spam solution. Deb shinder has a great article about this, Installing and Configuring the Email Hygiene Solution on the TMG 2010 Firewall, at the ISAServer.org site that I strongly recommend you to read.

Here’s a list of cool features related with Exchange/e-mail:

  • E-mail security: Forefront TMG provides central management for Exchange and Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange when located on the same server. Forefront TMG does not include either Exchange or Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange. Both must be purchased and installed separately.
  • Enhanced Network Address Translation (NAT): Forefront TMG now enables you to specify individual e-mail servers that can be published on a 1-to-1 NAT basis.

For the e-mail security feature, you must collocate the Exchange Edge server on the TMG server. This TechNet article has all the instructions: Installing prerequisites for e-mail protection.
