IBM updates cloud-native software with Red Hat OpenShift

IBM recently announced the transformation of its software portfolio. The updates are intended to make the company’s enterprise tools cloud-native and optimize them to run on Red Hat OpenShift. Basically, this means that enterprise customers will have the ability to build mission-critical applications once and then run them on all leading public clouds like AWS, Google Cloud Platform, IBM Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, along with your own private clouds. This is one of the many outcomes of IBM’s purchase of Red Hat last year.

Designed to help users transform their technology to optimize for the cloud era, these changes are set to have a major impact on enterprise customers. If you’re interested in learning more about how the new developments can benefit your organization, here’s a quick guide.

Cloud Paks

These new cloud-native capabilities are delivered to users through the use of IBM Cloud Paks. These pre-integrated solutions are designed to improve control and visibility across all of your cloud environments by providing a unified dashboard experience. The containerized software also provides a common operating model and set of services so organizations can create a sense of consistency. Some of the services include identity management, security, monitoring, and logging.

IBM/Red Hat OpenShift announcements

Overall, IBM has unveiled more than 100 new and/or updated software products and services across its Red Hat OpenShift-optimized software portfolio. These new solutions will be delivered on IBM’s hybrid multicloud platform, which is built using open source technologies just like Red Hat OpenShift.

Some of the new services that are optimized for this open source environment include Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud and Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Z and LinuxONE. Additionally, IBM has unveiled new consulting and technology services delivered by Red Hat certified consultants and application services practitioners. These services are designed to help users better move, build, and manage their workloads in various cloud environments, while also providing a consistent and simplified experience across clouds.
