Removing ASUS BIOS administrator password on older models

If you are stuck with an older ASUS laptop and can’t access BIOS settings due to an administrator password try the following procedure:

  1. Boot and enter BIOS.
  2. Once prompted for a BIOS password press ALT+R
  3. You will be asked for a “rescue password” which is unique for every date
  4. Visit http://biosbug.com/asus.php , insert the date that the laptop prompted and generate unlock code.
  5. Insert unlock code and you should be logged in as BIOS administrator

It is possible that generator does not work for newer dates. Then try another approach:

  1. Boot and enter BIOS.
  2. Once prompted for a BIOS password press Enter
  3. You should end up being logged in as a standard user unable to change critical settings.  However you should be able to change the date and time!
  4. Go to date settings and change date to one before end of 2011.
  5. Use the code for the day from this file Asus_Recovery_Bios_Passwords_2002-2011
  6. If all goes well you will be logged in as the BIOS administrator

Unfortunately these procedures are not guaranteed to work with all ASUS laptops. Especially, I expect newer UEFI based systems to require a different procedure.

Hi, you need to check the manual. In case you can boot windows you can change the date there (just make sure you are not connected to the internet, so Windows does not try updating it on it’s own). Good luck.

  5. I have the g73jh. Cannot access bios at all. Removed cmos battery. Does nothing. The Alt+r works to a point. I get it to show a box for the asus code. But I get no date. I tried entering password 3 times. Any time I do. After the asus boot screen. It just shuts off. over and over again. This thing is really starting to piss me off.
