A new technology called “Haven” that has been developed by Microsoft Research is aimed at keeping data and applications more secure in the cloud. It works by isolating them from the underlying infrastructure using something they call “shielded execution.” A nice touch is that it works with legacy applications on common operating systems. Haven combines Intel’s Software Guard Extensions with Microsoft’s Drawbridge, which is an experimental virtual container technology.
