Companies are concerned – and rightly so – about protecting their intellectual property, but are they putting too much focus on the possibility of theft committed by outsiders and overlooking the very real threat of insider IP theft? A recent report from Verizon, based on data from its annual Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR), found that about half of all IP theft comes at the hands of those inside the company – in contrast to data breaches themselves, only about 4% of which were attributed to insiders.
