Over the years, VMware has both acquired a number of products while also developing a number of their own. At the same time, VMware seems to enjoy renaming their products, as well as features, with each new release. Although most people know what vSphere and ESX do and just about every CIO and system admin out there is aware that vCenter is the management tool, there remains a lot of confusion about what VMware sells… most due to the name changes and wide variety of products. Over the next couple of months, I will be interspersing some VMware product primers into this blog. These primers are intended to provide a 30,000 foot view of the product and its purpose. If there is something particularly interesting, I’ll do a longer write up as an article.
Here, though, I want to ask the community… do you see any products that people regularly confuse or don’t understand?
