Google/YouTube announced it will be coming up with an ad-free option called YouTube Red. YouTube already offers the ability to purchase movies commercial free and you can watch them on your computer or any device that gets the YouTube app. So, why YouTube Red? Why now? I feel like maybe I'm just too old to appreciate this.
I cut the cable about three months ago, but still get Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Netflix. I also use Plex to do some organizing of downloaded videos. While I use YouTube to watch some tech stuff, it's not something I just sit and binge watch like I would with other content providers. Nor do I care that much about the 30 seconds of commercials I might have to endure. Why pay for it when I'm already getting it for free. Hulu is also offering a commercial free option which I might consider in the future, but only if the commerical breaks continue to get more annoying.
Like I said, though, maybe I'm just not the demographic YouTube is considering. Perhaps it's more for people born in the 1990s and later.
