I came across an interesting article by Chris Wolf (Research VP at Gartner) where he compared Windows Server 8 Hyper-V potential adoption with the adoption of Windows Server 2003 as a mainstream Enterprise operating system. Like Chris, I remember when a Windows OS was nowhere near inside a data center. Then, along came Windows NT which mostly had specialty uses in my experience. Then, along came Windows Server 2000 which was a little better. Then, along came Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft started to dominate the data center. Will Microsoft's Hyper-V 3 have the same effect as Windows Server 2003 did? Will Hyper-V 3 start to become the dominate data center hypervisor? I don't know, but it is an interesting question to ponder. Thanks for the thought-provoking idea Chris!
