Windows 2000 HAL Issues

  • Under Windows NT, one uses the uptomp.exe tool to
add support for multiple CPUs. This is not supported under Windows 2000. Instead
you use Device Manager to switch from the single
processor to multi-processor capable HAL. See How to Add
Support for Multiple Processors in Windows 2000
    for more information.

  • For help troubleshooting HAL problems such as misdetection, an outdated or
non-compliant Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) Basic
Input/Output System (BIOS), or an incorrectly or manually installed computer
    type see How to
Troubleshoot Windows 2000 Hardware Abstraction Layer Issues
    for more
    information.
