Earlier this month, Citrix announced that its partnership with Microsoft has grown stronger, with the addition of Citrix XenDesktop Essentials Service and Citrix XenApp Essential Service now in the Azure marketplace.
How XenDesktop will accelerate Windows 10 migration
The XenDesktop Essentials Service is built exclusively for the Windows 10 Enterprise Current Branch for Business (CBB) virtual desktops that are hosted on Azure. With this partnership, IT departments will be able to use Azure HUB client preview image from the gallery to deliver a high-performance Windows 10 Enterprise CBB virtual desktop experience. They’ll do that by leveraging XenDesktop’s technology: provisioning, management, and secure remote access.
Brad Andersen, Corporate Vice President of Citrix Enterprise Client & Mobility (ECM), explained it this way: “Citrix will offer customers who have purchased Windows Software Assurance on a per-user basis the option to host their Windows 10 Enterprise Current Branch for Business images on Azure through its XenDesktop VDI solution. This will be an industry first! This means you can deploy virtual apps or desktops and accelerate Windows 10 adoption for those customers who are using Microsoft Cloud solutions. Pretty incredible.”
How XenApp Essentials securely delivers Windows apps from Azure
XenApp Essentials is currently the simplest, quickest, and securest way to deliver Windows apps from Azure to any device. The integration in the marketplace ensures that XenApp Essentials has been optimized for Microsoft, mimicking the experience that Azure RemoteApp workflows customers are already accustomed to.
“Customers have provided us consistent feedback that they want a comprehensive, end-to-end, cloud-based solution for delivering Windows apps. The best way for us to deliver this is with Citrix through XenApp Essentials,” a spokesperson from Microsoft said.
