Today we begin with an article by Sukesh Mudrakola titled, ‘It’s Showtime!’ for Apple: Everything you need to know about this big event. As we pour over the information from last month’s glitzy Apple event, we realize that this is all about Apple’s move to play in the services market. Software-as-a-service, infrastructure-as-a-service, and now everything-as-a-service (that’s a real thing, folks!). Apple is rather late to the game and it remains to be seen if this move can survive the flip into the next economic cycle.
Our second article up for discussion is from Mitch Tulloch, titled Right to repair: If it’s broken, you ain’t gonna fix it. This is a trend that was started a very long time ago by John Deere (yup, the tractor guys), and has been recently re-energized by, you guessed it, Apple! Apple is actually opposing legislation that supports the right to repair in favor of keeping repairs and replacement parts proprietary. As consumers and IT professionals, we just might be losing our choices to keep our technology up and running.
We wind up the podcast with Twain Taylor’s article on yet another corporate battle for market share. Titled Slack vs. Microsoft Teams: The battle is heating up, this is a reminder that if we keep our guard down for even a second, we risk becoming victims of the tech war. This is shaping up to be the battle of the year as this feisty startup goes toe-to-toe with the heavyweight champ for workplace collaboration supremacy in the enterprise. Stay tuned as we discover if Slack will team with other entities and emerge as the next behemoth.
