Xtreme Podcast: Holiday musings on certifications and cybersecurity

Welcome to this week’s installment of the Xtreme Minute. This is our weekly rundown of the TechGenix Xtreme Podcast with Louise Chalupiak and Peter King with links to articles on the week’s hot tech topics. As we wind down in preparation for the holiday break, we reflect on the current status of some important elements behind the tech industry.

The first article is from Mitch Tulloch, titled A crazy question about certifications: Is the IT industry certifiably insane? While people in the IT industry invest dollars and time to ensure that we are marketable as IT resources, it might be time to assess the relevance of some of these certifications. But who else, other than the tech industry could possibly be capable of regulating our knowledge level?

Second up is Stephen M.W. with his article, Has your cybersecurity spending gone over the top? While this article could really apply to many elements of IT spending, there is no question that the line item in the corporate budget for cybersecurity has been increasing with each fiscal period. Stephen outlines six important red flags that might be an indicator of possible over-spending.

We close off with Twain Taylor and Proximity marketing: Sending the right message to your customers. Bricks-and-mortar retailers are starting to fight back with the use of technology solutions to entice potential consumers. The good news is that as consumers we can leverage this information to make more educated purchases. The bad news is a new and very targeted layer of marketing messages.
