Xtreme Podcast: All empires must fall, PCs included

Welcome to this week’s installment of the Xtreme Minute. This is our weekly rundown of the TechGenix Xtreme Podcast with Louise Chalupiak and Peter King with links to articles on the week’s hot tech topics.

We begin with an article from Brien Posey, Scam calls: Apple & Google are mobilizing to end this scourge. It doesn’t seem to matter whether you reside in the U.S. or Canada, the invasion of robocallers, scam callers, and telemarketers is a very real annoyance that regulators choose to ignore. Is it a good thing that Apple and Google are making changes, or can we just look forward to what Peter describes as the “next steps of horror”?

Our next article is from Mitch Tulloch, It’s nothing personal: The decline and fall of the PC empire. There is no question that we can do a lot on our mobile devices, but it’s difficult to imagine a time when the heavy lifting will move off a personal computing platform. The move to mobile computing in our personal lives seems to align with the cultural lifestyle, but the decline in the corporate world might very well be due to the extended lifespan of today’s hardware.

Wrapping things up is Rahul Sharma, with Missing the target: IT outsourcing mistakes that will kill your business. From selecting the lowest bidder to chasing shiny new toys, this article provides a cautionary tale for those who are considering outsourcing as an option. This is a decision the organization will have to live with and it’s critical that we have the long-term in mind.
