84% want to eliminate passwords

Bill Gates predicted the death of the password more than a decade ago (2004), but the venerable method of authenticating computer users has not yet gone quietly into that good night. However, the tide seems to be turning against passwords in an era when we finally have viable alternatives; I no longer tap in a PIN or password to access my smart phone, for example – I simply swipe my finger over the fingerprint reader.

A recent survey indicates that a large majority of respondents would be in favor of eliminating passwords altogether, and 3/4 belief that their information would be more secure if some other type of authentication were used. On the other hand, only a fifth of those who answered thought that two factor authentication is easy to use.
