A Quick Tip To Allow Multiple WDS Server Selection

WDS stands for Windows Deployment Services. This is same as RIS (Remote Installation Services). WDS is the enchanced version of RIS. WDS is used to deploy Windows Operating Systems Images remotely on new computers. When a new computer starts it gets the option to choose the WDS Server from which the Image of Windows Operating System is pulled. Client will be able to select images from a particular WDS Server. By default, clients are now allowed to see images from other WDS Servers. You can enable a registry entry so that client computers see the images from all the WDS Servers located on your network.

To enable this:

  • KEY Name: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WDSServer\Providers\WDSPXE\Providers\BINLSVC
  • Entry Name: AllowServerSelection
  • Value Name: 0x0 or 0x1

0x0 = Clients will connect to first WDS server.

0x1 = F11 prompt for Server Selection.
