Azure Disk Encryption Error

We all know that, in this security-centric age, encrypting our disks should be Standard Operating Procedure, whether they’re physical or virtual, local or cloud-based. However, if you try encrypting virtual disk files for the VMs that you’re hosting in Azure, you might get an error message that says “M has reported a failure when processing extension ‘AzureDiskEncryption’. Error message: “Failed to configure Bitlocker as expected.”

This can be caused by using the wrong version of PowerShell to perform the encryption operation. Azure Disk Encryption is not supported by Azure PowerShell SDK 1.1.0.  Luckily, the solution is simple: download the latest version of Azure PowerShell, 1.2.1.
