Are you having issues when synchronizing your Windows Mobile 5 device with an Exchange 2003 Server using Exchange ActiveSync (EAS)?

All the way back since the first Windows Mobile 2005-based devices started appearing on the market, I’ve had several questions from people who, for one reason or the other, couldn’t get their device to synchronize properly with an Exchange 2003 Server using Exchange ActiveSync (EAS). In most of the cases the reason turned out to be, that the mobile device simply didn’t trust the certificate provider, who issued the certificate that had been installed on the respective Exchange Server. For some reason (and I really don’t know why! ) a Windows Mobile 5 device, by default, doesn’t trust all the certificates Internet Explorer trusts. This means that you, in most situations, need to install the immediate and root certificates from the respective certificate provider manually on the device. This can typically be done by copying the certificate to the device (in .DER format), where you then simply double-click on it in File Explorer.
I’ll also include this information in one of my upcoming articles, that will cover the new Messaging Security Feature Pack (MSFP) also known as the Adaption Kit Update 2 (AKU2), which will appear here on MSExchange.org in a near future.

The MSFP (Messaging Security Feature Pack) aka AKU2 (Adaption Kit Update 2) starts appearing

Yes I agree we have waited far too long for the mobile device providers to ship an updated ROM that includes the MSFP (Messaging Security Feature Pack) also known as the AKU2 (Adaption Kit Update 2). For those of you who should not know this the MSFP, among other things, allows us to make use of the new DirectPush technology included in Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2 (I’m currently finishing an article covering DirectPush in-depth, it should get publish here on MSExchange.org in a near future).
A little over a week ago i-mate released an updated ROM for the K-JAM device, and will release an update for the JasJar in a few days (should already have been released in the beginning of this week). Today Orange UK released an updated ROM build for the SPV C600 device, which you can download here.

First E12 article has been published

As I promised you in the February edition of our newsletter, you can look forward to plenty of Exchange 12 (E12) related articles here on MSExchange.org in a near future. If you haven’t already noticed, the first one which shows you how to do relatively simple Exchange management tasks (such as moving mailboxes etc.) via the Exchange 12 Management shell (which are based on MSH aka Monad) were published today!

Blog intro

Alright finally I have decided to start a blog here on MSExchange.org. There are several reasons behind this decision, some of you might be aware I’ve been blogging since 2002 (over at my Danish Exchange site – www.exchange-faq.dk), back when blogging still was a very new concept. But since Denmark isn’t among the biggest countries in the world, I thought I would try to reach an even larger crowd by starting a blog in English here on MSExchange.org too.
The main purpose of this blog is get even closer to all you readers of my articles, as well as all you Exchange admin’s who hangs around and post interesting questions/issues on the message boards.
I look forward to post about interesting Exchange (mainly Exchange 2003/12) related subjects/issues, and to communicate with you in an additional way

Exchange 2003 Outlook Web Access Extension Allows You to View Message Source

E-mail messages contain a lot of useful information called “message header” that allows you to diagnose mail problems. You can see some of the path the mail to get to you, and its raw form, cleverly masked by your mail client.

Outlook Web Access does not allow you to view the message headers for an e-mail message; however, thanks to some crafty programming by Sig Weber you can add this functionality easily. Outlook Web Access does not allow you to view the message headers for an e-mail message; however, thanks to some crafty programming by Sig Weber you can add this functionality easily. To enable this feature, you need to download Sid’s modified util_View.js file and replace the original located on the Exchange server under \Program Files\Exchsrvr\exchweb\6.5.6944.0\controls.
