CES 2020: Latest innovations in laptops and smartphones

Befitting the world’s largest consumer electronics show, a slew of innovative tech products and services were showcased at CES 2020. In a previous article, we covered the best of the products and services displayed at CES 2020. Here, we have compiled the best laptops and smartphones unveiled at the event. Irrespective of the platform, smartphone and laptop makers are continually releasing new products. Accordingly, this year’s CES in Las Vegas had more than its share of announcements in the segment of smartphones and laptops. Let’s look at some of the new phones and laptops showcased at CES 2020.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite and S10 Lite

Samsung’s smartphone launches are always of great interest, both for business and personal users. The company recently launched its Galaxy S10 and Note 10 series of smartphones. While both these handsets have been receiving a good response, many users complain about the affordability of these high-end flagship devices.

At CES 2020, Samsung came up with something very interesting by launching a ‘Lite’ variant for both its flagship devices. Dubbed the Galaxy Note 10 Lite and S10 Lite, both these handsets are the company’s brand-new affordable flagships.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite line features specifications from the Galaxy S10, S10e, and S10+ and bundles them in a much more affordable package. The device sports a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus display and is powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC. The device also comes with a triple rear camera setup along with a 32-megapixels front-facing camera.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite, on the other hand, draws a lot of features from the Galaxy S10 Lite. The Note 10 Lite has an identical display, front-camera, and storage specifications similar to the S10 Lite. However, the Note 10 Lite offers the stylus experience to its users who are inclined to use a Note handset at an affordable price-point.

Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Fold

We’ve already seen some foldable tech surfacing in the market in the form of smartphones and phablets. But Lenovo has unveiled something innovative at CES 2020 in the form of Thinkpad X1 Fold. Yes, as the name suggests, it is the company’s very first and, in fact, the world’s first-ever foldable computer.

The device comes with a 13.3-inch display that can be folded from the center for portability. The device weighs only 2.2 pounds, making it an ideal one-piece replacement for a phone, tablet, and even a laptop. It also comes with a mini Bluetooth-powered keyboard that can be connected to the device when folded. The X1 Fold runs Windows 10 out-of-the-box and can also be used with a stylus.

The device is expected to roll-out by mid-2020 with an expected starting price of $2,499.

Dell Alienware Concept UFO

Alienware Concept UFO is the company’s latest gaming console intended to bring the PC gaming experience to console. Alienware Concept UFO is essentially a Nintendo Switch meant for PC gaming.

While most of us might prefer Nintendo Switch, what’s innovative about Dell’s Alienware Concept UFO is that it brings the rich PC gaming experience at the comfort of a switch-like gaming console. The device runs on the Windows 10 operating system with built-in access to Valve’s Steam PC game services. The device comes with detachable controllers that can be clipped together for tabletop play.

The device sports an 8-inch display with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels. Under the hood, the device is powered by the 10th generation Intel Core processor. The device comes with a Thunderbolt USB Type-C port for connectivity purposes. The price and release date of the device is yet to be disclosed by the company. Samsung Galaxy Chromebook

Samsung also introduced its Galaxy Chromebook at CES 2020. The device is a thin, compact, and lightweight two-in-one convertible laptop that runs Chrome OS. The device sports a 13.3-inch 4K AMOLED display with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. The device is powered by 10th generation Intel Core processor and is paired with up to 16GB of RAM. The device offers up to 1TB of SSD storage and comes with a stylus for easy access.

The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook is priced at about $1,000 and is expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2020. The device is available in Fiesta Red and Mercury Grey color options.

Lenovo ThinkBook Plus

Lenovo has always been known for its innovations in consumer tech and accordingly the company showcased its all-new dual-screened laptop in the form of Lenovo ThinkBook Plus. It sports a 13.3-inch LCD primary display and an auxiliary e-ink display on the top cover.

The device is powered by the latest 10th generation Intel Core i7 processor paired with 8GB or 16GB of RAM. It offers up to 512GB of SSD storage options and also offers a touch fingerprint sensor for additional security.CES 2020

Speaking about the secondary display on the laptop, which is its unique selling point, the e-ink display technology is usually seen in devices like the Kindle but not on regular laptops. With the secondary display, the device allows its users to take quick notes, read, illustrate diagrams or designs and receive notifications.

The ThinkBook Plus’ price starts at $1,199 and will be available in March.

Acer ConceptD 7 Laptops

Acer unveiled its all-new Acer ConceptD 7 laptops at CES 2020. Both laptops come with a feature that allows users to set the screen in a variety of positions. So these creator laptops provide users with the flexibility to work at their comfort while focusing on productivity.

These laptops are stuffed with the latest hardware under the hood and are priced starting at $2,700. However, the company is yet to shed light on when they will be available.
