Cybersecurity bill approved by Senate committee

There has been a great deal of controversy over the U.S. Senate bill that gives the president the authority to seize control of or even shut down the Internet (or at least the parts under U.S. control), sponsored by Senator Joe Lieberman. The bill’s sponsors deny the “kill switch” allegation.

Last week, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee approved an amended version of the bill; the next step is a vote on the Senate floor.
