Don’t get pwned at Black Hat or DEF CON

Here’s a short list of best practices for securing your mobile devices in case you are attending Black Hat and Def Con conferences this week in Las Vegas. Wolfgang Kandek, CTO at Qualys recommends the following steps:

  • Disable Bluetooth, NFC and Wi-Fi on your phone,
  • Disable Wifi on your tablets and laptops
  • If you have to connect to the Internet make sure the connection is encrypted
  • Don’t install any updates or patches while at the conference – they could be fake
  • Don’t log in to sensitive accounts
  • Don’t use/accept any third party storage or third party charging
