VKernel has released another great whitepaper. This time, they are addressing the top 5 VM performance problems.
“When it comes to performance, the virtual infrastructure is more complex to understand than the physical infrastructure. Think of the virtual infrastructure like a funnel with the applications on top, running inside the guest OS which is installed in the virtual machines. Those virtual machines are configured with virtual hardware like virtual CPU, virtual memory, virtual disk, and virtual network. The virtual machines run on the hypervisor that provides shared access to the physical hardware of the server. The scarce physical hardware is burdened with huge pressure from the substantial amount of virtual hardware, virtual machines, guest operating systems, and applications that are riding on top of it.”
