Microsoft recently released a whitepaper on how Microsoft IT moved Microsoft.com to Hyper-V. This is a really good read on how some of the advancements in Hyper-V R2 are used. This whitepaper can also be used as a reference architecture in your own environment if you are considering Hyper-V R2.

Products and technologies used include:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows clustering
  • Cluster Shared Volumes
  • SAN-based storage
  • Hyper-V
  • Live migration
  • Quick migration
  • Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2
  • Maintenance mode
  • Quick storage migration
  • Virtual machine templates
  • Windows PowerShell cmdlets
