Installing the Print Service Server Role in Windows Server 2008

Print Services in Windows Server 2008 allows you to share printers on a network and consolidate print server and network printer management tasks by using the Print Management console. The Print Service role in Windows Server 2008 includes Server Manager and Print Management. To install the Print Services server role with the Print Server and Internet Printing role services follow these steps:

  1. In Server Manager, right click Roles and select Add Roles, this will load the Add Roles Wizard.
  2. On the Before You Begin page, click Next.
  3. On the Server Roles page, select the Print Services check box and click Next.
  4. On the Print Services page, click Next.
  5. On the Select Role Services page, select the Print Server and Internet Printing check boxes, and click Next.
  6. If IIS is not installed, in the Add Roles wizard dialog box, click Add Required Role Services.
  7. On the Select Role Services page, click Next.
  8. On the web Server (IIS) page, click Next.
  9. On the Select Role Services page, you’re prompted to select the role services you want to install to support IIS. Click Next to accept the default settings.
  10. On the Confirmation page, click Install.
  11. On the Results page, click Close.
